Powercast
Powercast is the pioneer of radio frequency (RF)-based long-range power-over-distance wireless charging technology. The embedded wireless power solution works in the far field for over-the-air charging of multiple devices – no wires, charging mats or direct line of sight needed. Behaving like Wi-Fi where enabled devices automatically charge when within range of a transmitter, Powercast’s remote wireless charging is more convenient than inductive, coil-based charging that requires direct contact with a power source. Since 2003, Powercast has helped customers power wireless sensor networks, waterproof designs, smart bands, RFID tags and other commercial and industrial devices, and in 2017 launched solutions to power consumer electronics devices. How the RF energy harvesting technology works: Powercast’s 80-foot-range, FCC-approved RF transmitter uses the 915-MHz ISM band to send RF energy to a receiver chip embedded in a device, which converts it to direct current (DC) with up to 75 percent efficiency to directly power or recharge that device’s batteries. The wireless power technology is smart, configurable and controllable. It can automatically activate when devices need charging and turn itself off when they’re done, or can deliver power continuously or on a scheduled basis.
